Valley Partnership Community Project - Creating Unity
On November 2, more than 150 volunteers descended upon our new home at 9th street and Jefferson to build out the Inspiration outside Courtyard. Valley Partnership selected New Pathways as the recipient of their 2019 Valley Partnership Community Project to design and build this much-needed courtyard addition for our future space. The courtyard was not included in the original plans due to costs, but now with the help of Valley Patnership our mentors and youth will now enjoy a welcoming outdoor space for social bonding and connection to nature.

“What an incredible experience this year,” said Cheryl Lombard, president and CEO of Valley Partnership. “The team of volunteers were truly humbled by the mission and impact of New Pathways and grateful for the opportunity to give back. The project exposed our members and community to the impact mentorship and how they can make a difference in these at-risk youths lives.”

Thank you to Valley Partnership and this group of community members and leaders for showing your support for our mission. It proves what is possible when work together to champion our youth.

Transformations Society - Reflection and Hope

New Pathways for Youth celebrated the last event at their current headquarters in the Garfield District.  More than 150 Transformation Society donors joined together to reflect on the past 30 years of impact and learn more from youth and mentors about the exciting plans for the organization.  This committed group of donors is looking into the future with great excitement as they prepare to move into their new home and double their impact for our community.

Transformations Society Profile - Rocco Mandala

Rocco Mandala has been a champion for our youth for years. Rocco’s efforts in creating Rocco’s Pin Pals and the support that event has provided our youth and our mentors is a shining example of the creativity, strength, and energy our Transformations Society members provide to New Pathways. We had a chance to sit down with Rocco last week and hear his story and learn how he became a pillar of our community.

Rocco's Pin Pals

What motivates you to give your time and resources to advancing the mission of New Pathways?

The mission is very personal to me.  As a young adult I was mentored by many caring adults outside of my family unit. Their interest in me and my future success was critical to shaping my journey.

What personal experiences drive your desire to give back?

I love seeing the transformations that are possible once our youth start believing in themselves.  Amazing things happen.  Watching these transformations over the years is what keeps me committed to New Pathways and our youth.  The possibilities are endless.

What is the Board doing (or would you hope to see the Board do) to advance the mission/vision of New Pathways?

I continue to be impressed with Christy McClendon and the incredible leadership she has shown in advancing the mission of NPFY.  The board’s commitment to doubling the organization’s impact is to be applauded.  The work of this organization is so important to the future of our community.  I look forward to helping the board meet their goals and spending time in the new building!

What advice can you give to encourage others to get involved with NPFY to become a volunteer or supporter?

Mentoring through NPFY is a large commitment of time.  However, that’s not the only way you can help advance this incredible mission. Think about who you know that may connect with our youth.  I continue to be amazed by the connections and collaborations that emerge from Rocco’s Pin Pals bowling tourney.  It shows what can happen when a community comes together for a shared passion.

Mentor and Volunteer Recruitment

Our youth need YOU! Become a mentor and changes lives…including yours! Many of our mentors come into the experience not knowing what to expect and leave having been changed forever.

Mentoring fosters growth, improves lives, changes outcomes and brings hope to at-risk youth in local communities affected by challenges.

Last year, our mentors provided more than 60,000 hours of mentoring. Everything from social and emotional support to academic and career readiness, mentoring can be something different in every scenario and means so much to the youth we serve. We have tools, training, and an amazing support staff to help you every step of the way.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor, feel free to reach out and attend one of our mentor introduction sessions, every Tuesday at 6:15 pm and the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7:30 am.
