Debuting a new opportunity for you to get involved – The New Pathways for Youth Salon Tool Kit!

In Phoenix, New Pathways for Youth fills a unique niche among youth serving organizations. We serve youth experiencing four times the adversity of other youth – adversities such as homelessness, family violence and abuse, and parent incarceration. Youth often forgotten by other agencies. In fact, there are over 180,000 youth in Maricopa County who could use our services.

The need for New Pathways far exceeds our capacity. To ensure that we continue creating breakthroughs for youth and are able to serve as many youth possible, we have been evaluating our program model and reviewing youth outcomes to create a plan for scalability and replicability. This analysis led to the development of a four-part strategy; 1) mentor recruitment, 2) mentor and staff development, 3) curriculum integration, and 4) space and facility needs. Over the next few months, we will be sharing with you our specific findings and associated plan of action. This month, we’ll be looking at mentor recruitment.

As we enter our 30th year of transforming lives through mentoring, we are committed to evolving our mentor recruitment practices to ensure we are recruiting individuals ready to accept the commitment of supporting and coaching a young person to a future they never thought possible. We are overhauling each and every aspect of our mentor recruitment process, from our mentor introduction to our interview process to our onboarding practices. Now is a great time to get involved!

What continues to be our most effective recruitment strategy is word of mouth referrals from our mentors, supporters, and other friends. To support the amazing conversations that you are having on our behalf, we’re excited to announce our final strategy in our mentor recruitment plan! This month we’re debuting our brand-new salon toolkit. Salons are intimate gatherings hosted by you, in partnership with New Pathways, for your family and friends. Salons are a highly customizable and personal opportunities to share New Pathways with your network. Our toolkit walks you through the entire process from creating a guest list to thanking your attendees. Please consider hosting a salon and spreading our good work. Reach out to us today!

January is National Mentoring Month! On behalf of the staff, board of directors, and youth at New Pathways, thank you for the hundreds and hundreds of hours you devote each year to supporting your youth to fulfill their potential. What a better time to reach out to your friends and family to share your experiences of mentoring and invite them to join you in this journey? Who knows… the life they transform may be their own!

For nearly 30 years, New Pathways for Youth has served youth experiencing poverty and other extreme adversities such as parent incarceration, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, and high school dropout. Our comprehensive approach to 1-1 mentoring in connected communities of other mentors and youth breaks through self-destructive thinking to empower youth to achieve a future of college and career success.

This is what the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit makes possible! Not only does your contribution make a difference for our youth, but through the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit all donations up to $800 for couples and $400 for individuals could provide a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for you.

To donate, go to www.npfy.org/donate. Support our youth and make your tax credit donation today!

Any donation made prior to April 15, 2019 can be applied to your 2018 taxes. This is separate from the school and foster care tax credits, so you can claim all three deductions. Please consult a tax advisor for further details or visit www.azdor.gov for more information.

Congratulations to our Board Chair and Briana’s mentor, Robin Hilgart, for being named a Finalist for the Excellence in Mentoring Award – Impactful Philanthropy by MENTOR.

MENTOR, the premier national organization dedicated to closing the mentoring gap, recognizes only two finalists nationwide at their annual conference in Washington DC. Robin was acknowledged for her tremendous contributions to young people and mentoring, including raising over $150,000 for New Pathways programs and services, and her five year relationship with her mentee. Robin’s philanthropy and commitment have made a countless difference in the lives of hundreds of youth.
