PATHWAYS! June 2022

Meet Our Director of Philanthropy

New Pathways has recently welcomed a valuable new member to our team! Read on to get to know a bit more about our new Director of Philanthropy, John Patris-Browne.

What brought you to New Pathways?
I have spent my life working in nonprofits, particularly in Youth Development. I sI grew up working for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley. A couple of years ago, I stepped away from the Boys & Girls Clubs, and shortly after that realized how much I missed the great work of Youth Development. When The opportunity to join NPFY presented itself, it was a no-brainer. I am back making a difference with an organization that truly makes my heart sing!

What are you most looking forward to about your role?
Nonprofit work in Phoenix is a very small community. I love all the other wonderful organizations around the Valley that dedicate their work to making a difference in our communities. I look forward to connecting with all of the passionate investors, volunteers, and community partners who help make New Pathways so successful!

What is an achievement you feel proud of?
I am most proud of my family and being a dad to my two beautiful kids. I have an 11-year-old daughter named Nixon and an 8-year-old son named Niko.

What is one goal you have for the future?
My goal is to one day be an Executive Director for a nonprofit organization and get the opportunity to lead the staff and mission!

Lastly, what is one thing you would tell your younger self?
A personal mantra I live by now in my personal and professional day-to-day life is to fake it till you make it. Choosing to be confident in yourself is 90% of the battle.

Rising Star

One of our youth, Eduardo Rangel, was recently named to Junior Achievement of Arizona’s 18 under 18!

Eduardo, a recent grad of Phoenix Union Wilson College Prep, was recognized for his admirable strides toward a career in construction, including a hands-on internship at DPR Construction facilitated through NPFY.

Junior Achievement of Arizona’s 18 under 18 celebrates future leaders, change makers, and innovators who represent the business and community leaders of tomorrow. This year, Eduardo has been recognized among other passionate Arizona youth who are making a real impact and achieving great things while demonstrating exceptional leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, and dedication to their communities.

You can read Eduardo’s feature and see the full 18 under 18 list here. Congrats, Eduardo! We couldn’t be more proud of you!

A Glimpse Into the Future

Last month, we had another memorable tour of the Arizona State University campus with our youth. College campus tours are a perennial favorite at NPFY, as these tours allow youth to see what a real college looks like – for many, for the first time – and visualize their own futures.

We love seeing our youth get excited about what the future may hold for each of them while they tour the campus and learn more about a typical day in the life of a college student.

You can see photos from our trip on our Facebook page. Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date with future ASU campus tours and other happenings at NPFY!
