New Pathways for Youth Awards $84,000 in Scholarships to 28 First-Generation College Students

Youth receives their scholarships at special celebration

Phoenix, AZ – August 14, 2024 – New Pathways for Youth (NPFY) proudly announces the awarding of $84,000 in scholarships to 28 outstanding young individuals. These scholarships, ranging from $2,000 to $5,000 each, empower our youth to pursue higher education—whether at a four-year university, a two-year college, or a trade school.

This year’s scholarship recipients, represent a significant milestone for our community. Many of these students are the first in their families to attend college, and these awards will provide crucial support for their educational journeys. The scholarships cover not only tuition but also essential expenses such as housing, transportation, and living costs, removing financial barriers so our youth can focus on their studies.

The scholarships are a testament to the transformative power of NPFY’s mentoring and personal development programs. Through the guidance of dedicated mentors and the tools provided by our curriculum, these young individuals have learned to set and achieve their goals, positioning them for success in their academic and professional lives.

Here are some thoughts our awardees shared regarding their experience with the NPFY programs:

Alan:
“My mentor Mike’s hard work and generosity inspired me to hold myself accountable. He’s set the standard for success, and I strive to make him proud.”

Sir Pierre:
“Michael helped me unlock my potential, improve my social skills, and find peace amid noise. NPFY showed me I’m capable of overcoming challenges.”

This year’s scholarships include:

– Two Four-Year College Scholarships valued at $5,000 per year.

– LEVEL UP Scholarships for 14 students, with awards ranging from $2,500 to $4,500.

– LEVEL UP Two-Year College/University Scholarships for seven students, each receiving $2,000.

– LEVEL UP Trade School Scholarships for five students, each receiving $2,000.

The growth of our scholarship program has been made possible through the generosity of our partners, including the Dougherty Foundation, which provided a matching gift for this year’s scholarship fund. Their support, along with contributions from other community partners, has enabled us to extend more opportunities to our youth.

The achievements of our scholarship recipients were celebrated at a breakfast event hosted by Mountain Park Health Center on Wednesday, August 14th, at their Tempe Clinic. The event highlighted the incredible journeys of these students and the collective impact of NPFY’s programs and partnerships.

These scholarships represent more than financial aid—they embody the collective effort to uplift and empower the next generation. As NPFY looks to the future, we remain steadfast in our commitment to guiding our youth as they continue to break barriers and achieve their fullest potential.
