National Mentoring Month

Each January, we come together as a community to recognize the importance mentorship plays in igniting passions and turning dreams into reality with National Mentoring Month. At New Pathways for Youth, our mentors support their youth in goal setting and achieving, gaining personal development skills and much more. Our mentors serve as stable, caring adults in a young persons life.

This month, we sent frisbees as a token of appreciation to all of the mentors in our program for helping our youth soar. Being outside and playing sports is a great way to counteract the effects of adversity and toxic stress. Even sitting and tossing the frisbee back and forth makes for a fun, playful conversation.

There are countless benefits to having and becoming a mentor. Multiple mentors in our program have expressed that their mentee has positively changed their life. According to MENTOR, national mentors serve as pillars in our communities, raising up local leaders, organizers, and changemakers that make our world better and brighter. Research shows that young people with mentors are:

  • 52% less likely to skip school.
  • 78% more likely to volunteer regularly in their communities.
  • 130% more likely to hold a leadership position in a club or sports team.

Although National Mentoring Month is coming to an end, we will continue to advocate for mentoring and the tremendous benefits it has on the Phoenix community. If it hasn’t been said enough, thank you to all of our inspiring mentors!
