Beyond the Runway: Youth Aviation Academy Launches a Summer of Discovery

Phoenix, AZ – June 4, 2025

The second annual Youth Aviation Academy is now underway, launching a month of hands-on learning, mentorship, and career exploration for teens from across Phoenix. Taking place every Tuesday in June, this unique summer program is opening doors to new possibilities and helping youth envision futures they may never have considered.

The Academy is a collaborative effort between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, and the Support Sky Harbor Coalition. Ricondo & Associates, a long-time supporter of NPFY is also a crucial part of this effort.  

Throughout the program, teens gain exclusive access to areas of the airport that most travelers never see. They tour the command center, TSA operations, fire station, K-9 units, private jet hangars, and more. At each stop, they meet the people who make it all happen, from engineers and tradespeople to customer service professionals and public safety teams, who share their career journeys and the pride they take in their work.

These behind-the-scenes experiences are more than just educational. They provide youth with a window into the wide range of opportunities available in the aviation field, where they can see the passion and dedication of the people who work there, setting a powerful example for young people who are beginning to imagine what kind of future they want for themselves.

The Academy is part of our Level Up curriculum and is designed to support not only career exploration, but also personal development. With guidance from mentors, youth are encouraged to reflect on what they learn, set goals, and build the confidence to pursue new paths. For many, this experience is a turning point, helping them connect their personal growth with real-world possibilities.
