June 2019 Newsletter
Either because of barriers to school success or lack of family role models, for many of our youth, high school graduation was not something they thought possible before joining New Pathways.
For many of our youth, their high school graduation isn’t just their accomplishment but a family milestone as well–like Francisco who became the first person in his family to graduate high school! Where school was never very important and dropping out was the norm, our youth have now shown that high school success and graduation are possible.
When Vikki was matched with her mentor four years ago, Vikki knew she wanted to go to college to become a scientist but had no idea what it took to get to there. Using our 8-week goal setting projects as a support, Vikki and her mentor began working together to make Vikki’s college dreams a reality. From scholarship research and applications to building academic résumés to enhancing Vikki’s organizations skills, each project got Vikki closer to her dream. And all their hard work paid off! In August, Vikki will begin her freshman year at Embry-Riddle University in Prescott.
Graduation is a major milestone for many of our mentoring matches. We are honored that over the course of their relationship, matches have used our distinct intentional curriculum and goal setting projects to build our youths’ skills to create academic and life successes. And they’re not done yet! New Pathways for Youth and mentors will continue to support our 32 graduating seniors through age 21 to ensure that our youth are firmly established in the college or early career as young adults. We look forward to celebrating many more milestones with these matches!

I love my work because we are addressing a real challenge in this world, poverty and adversity. We are not just a mentoring program, we are a movement towards breaking the cycle of poverty and adversity by creating honest relationships and developing skills that tap into the best versions of ourselves. Plus, it’s fun working here! I have the opportunity to connect with colleagues and mentors with different backgrounds and stories and who also believe that our youth deserve the future they desire.
Who do you know who would make a great fit for our team? We are looking for highly qualified professionals with a passion for serving youth and experience in case management or fundraising. Click below for our current job openings and to apply.
