Welcoming Our FY27 Board Officers & Committee Leaders
We are proud to announce the new leadership of our Caminos Advisory Committee, a dedicated group of Latino professionals and community leaders helping expand culturally connected mentorship for the youth we serve!
Please join us in welcoming our Caminos Advisory Committee team:
- Chair: Melissa Heger
- Vice Chair: Christopher Bernal
- Secretary: Trisha Schultz
- Committee Members: Roger Albarrán, Juliana Manzanares, Sylvanna Carrete, and Samuel P. Perez Diarte
Nearly 70% of the youth in our programs identify as Latino, and Caminos continues to champion our mentor recruitment and community engagement efforts. Together, this dedicated group plays a vital role in inspiring more Latino professionals to become mentors, advocates, and leaders for young people who deserve to see leadership that reflects their culture, experiences, and aspirations.

Introducing Our New Planning with Purpose Series
Making plans for the future is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give to the people you care about, but navigating personal finances and long-term planning can feel overwhelming. We are excited to launch Planning with Purpose, a brand-new, three-part learning series designed to connect our community with trusted local experts on estate planning, smart tax strategies, and impactful giving.
Our series kicks off with our first session, Wills, Trusts & Directives, on Thursday, September 10, from 8:30 to 10:00 AM at the NPFY center. Local estate planning attorney Jessica Clark will break down complex legal concepts, explaining the key differences between wills and trusts, the importance of healthcare directives, and practical steps to protect your loved ones.
If you cannot make it to this first workshop, we encourage you to mark your calendar and join us for the remaining sessions in the series:
- End-of-Year Giving Strategies:
- November 12, 2026 (8:30 AM – 10:00 AM)
- Coffee, Cause & Credits (AZ Charitable Tax Credit):
- January 21, 2027 (8:30 AM – 10:00 AM)

Healing Through Creativity: How Art Helps Our Youth Process Trauma
When young people are given the tools to safely navigate life’s challenges, true transformation happens. Our Programs and Training teams recently attended Art Heals Arizona’s Resilient Hearts Symposium to explore creative care using artistic expression, movement, and mindfulness to help youth regulate their nervous systems, process complex emotions, and build resilience.
Because trauma can make it difficult for youth to put their feelings into words, expressive arts create a safe bridge to externalize implicit emotional memories. Equipped with fresh perspectives from the symposium, our team is excited to bring these practical grounding tools directly into Level Up to help our youth decompress, focus, and thrive!

Growing Together: Celebrating Promotions and Milestones on Our Team
Transformation is not just something we create alongside our youth and mentors; it is something we live as a team. As we step into the new fiscal year, we are thrilled to celebrate several staff members who are taking on new leadership roles to strengthen our operations and community outreach. We are proudly recognizing the recent promotions of Mark Teetor, Vanesa Contreras Rodriguez, Mark Garcia, Taylor Moschetti, Anahi Estala Ortiz, and Julian Arvizu, whose ongoing dedication continues to help young people thrive.
We are also honoring the incredible commitment of colleagues who have shaped the heart of our mission over the years. A special congratulations goes out to Nick Harris-Jensen and Farrah Fiegener for over five years of service, and to Mark Garcia for nearly 11 years with us! Behind every moment of transformation is a group of people who deeply believe in the power of consistent support.
