Raising Resilient Families: NPFY’s Trauma-Informed Approach in Action
New Pathways for Youth PFY Joins Isaac School District for Parent University Event at ASU West
Phoenix, AZ — October 23, 2025
In September, New Pathways for Youth was honored to participate in the Isaac School District’s Parent University event at Arizona State University’s West Campus.
It’s always inspiring to connect with our community partners over a shared meal and a shared mission—to empower youth and families across the Valley. At this event, we were especially proud to join efforts with ASU and Isaac Elementary School District, two organizations equally committed to meeting families where they are: on a Saturday morning, in a welcoming space, with childcare provided, and conversations available in Spanish.
Supporting Parents on the Path to Education
Parent University provided parents of K–8 students with tools and knowledge to better support their children on the path to higher education. Representing NPFY, Youth Enrollment and Caregivers Circle facilitators Julian Arvizu and Nina Franco led two sessions that invited parents to reflect on what it means to raise resilient families.
Through thoughtful discussions, they introduced participants to NPFY’s Caregivers Circle—a monthly program designed to strengthen families through connection, understanding, and growth.
Their session, titled “Criando Familias Resilientes: Reeducándonos Junto a Nuestros Hijos” (Raising Resilient Families: Reparenting Ourselves Alongside Our Children), communicates that resilience is something families can actively build together. It’s not about judging whether families are already resilient—it’s about offering support and tools to help them continue growing in that direction.
The phrase “Reeducándonos Junto a Nuestros Hijos” (Reparenting Ourselves Alongside Our Children) also reminds us that parenting can be a transformative journey for adults. It acknowledges that caregivers may carry emotional patterns from their own upbringing—and that through reflection and healing, they can create healthier, more nurturing relationships with their children.
About the Caregivers Circle
The Caregivers Circle is an open and welcoming space where parents and caregivers explore the challenges and joys of raising teens. Grounded in NPFY’s trauma-informed curriculum, each session helps families develop emotional awareness, communication, and resilience—ensuring that transformation extends beyond the youth in our program and into the entire household.
Sessions take place every third Saturday of the month and are offered in both English and Spanish. The program is open to any parent or caregiver—whether or not their teen is currently enrolled in NPFY’s Level Up program.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. As a result, NPFY was invited to deliver our Raising Resilient Families session to parents at Butler Elementary (an Isaac District school).
A Shared Commitment to Our Community
We are deeply grateful to Marcela Lopez, Director of Family and Community Engagement at the Isaac School District, and ASU for inviting us to be part of this meaningful day and for their continued partnership in uplifting families throughout our community.
Together, we’re ensuring that every young person—and every family—can thrive.
