At New Pathways for Youth, we believe prevention begins long before a crisis. It begins when caring adults, strong communities, and purpose-driven systems come together to support young people and the families raising them. That shared commitment was at the heart of the 32nd Statewide Child Abuse Prevention Conference, themed Prevention on Purpose, hosted by Prevent Child Abuse Arizona in partnership with the Department of Child Safety Office of Prevention.

Held July 21–22, 2026, at Glendale, AZ, the conference brought together hundreds of human service professionals from across Arizona to connect, collaborate, and explore what it means to act with intention on behalf of children and families.

Why Prevention Must Be on Purpose

The theme, Prevention on Purpose, invited participants to reflect on how their skills, experiences, and values can be used to create safer, stronger, and more supportive environments for children. Research from the Center for Disease Control and child welfare organizations reminds us that prevention requires action across individual, family, and community levels—building protective factors like parental resilience, social connections, access to basic needs, nurturing relationships, and supportive community norms.

For NPFY, that message deeply aligns with our mission to transform the lives of youth by providing the support, stability, and skills they need to flourish in the community and in their families. Through mentorship, personal development, and connection to critical resources, prevention becomes more than an idea—it becomes a pathway toward joy, purpose, and possibility.

Our Commitment to Learning and Impact

Representing New Pathways for Youth, Taylor Moschetti, Training & Curriculum Manager, presented the talk “Connection is Prevention: Practical Empathy Skill for Engaging Adolescents” and joined professionals from across the state who are working directly with children and families. These spaces are important to our mission because they allow practitioners, educators, advocates, and community leaders to learn from one another and strengthen the systems of support surrounding young people.

“Every young person deserves someone who believes in them before they believe in themselves,” said Mark Garcia, Vice President of Learning Systems at New Pathways for Youth. “Prevention happens when we surround youth and families with caring relationships, practical support, and opportunities to grow. That’s how we help young people build resilience, strengthen families, and create lasting change.”

Creating Conditions Where Youth and Families Can Thrive

Child abuse prevention is connected to the strength of families, the availability of trusted support, and the ability of communities to respond before challenges become crises. At our organization, we see this every day through our trauma-informed curriculum and research-based programming, while creating a caring community that helps youth build resilience, confidence, emotional awareness, and healthy relationships.

When families have access to connection, support, knowledge, and stability, children are safer and communities grow stronger.
