April 2017 Newsletter

Every year, the Hon Kachina Council grants awards to deserving volunteers who demonstrate outstanding work, improving lives in their community. This year, one of our own, Julie Frisoni Shumway, was honored by the Council for the thousands of hours she’s dedicated to New Pathways since our founding and first intensive retreat, 27 years ago.

Julie has been an integral part of our family, helping to grow New Pathways and bring our mission to life. She’s the triple threat—Mentor, Volunteer AND Donor—one of our most tireless advocates.

When Julie arrived at our doors so many years ago, we were five volunteers and a CEO serving 40 youth. We now serve more than 500 youth annually with an army of committed volunteers and mentors doing incredible work. She played a crucial role in building a strong foundation for us to grow and touch more lives throughout the Valley.

We thank Julie for everything she does for our youth and our organization. It’s people like her who make transformation possible and the promise of brighter futures for Phoenix’s at-risk youth a reality.

Are you ready to create your own legacy of volunteering excellence? Follow in Julie’s footsteps by signing up for one of our upcoming volunteer opportunities. It’s a great way to get to know us and to find your path to impacting our community.

Last week, New Pathways for Youth Dave Trout Open took place and was not only a fun filled day on the links but also sponsored youth transformation on the green! More than 125 people were on hand, joining our presenting sponsors AlphaGraphics and Arizona Business Bank, to raise over $100,000 for our Transformative Mentoring Program. Their contributions support youth like Miriam, who spoke at the event of the power of choice and how mentoring came into her life when she needed it most. Participants heard how our program helps at risk youth like Miriam identify self destructive thought processes and declare a new declaration for their future.

Dave’s fun-loving and charitable spirit shown through all aspects of the event and our thanks go out to our two presenting sponsors for making it all possible. AlphaGraphics and CoBiz Financial are truly dedicated to our youth and to the future of our community!

11th Annual BizBash Concert

For each of the past 11 years, donors have gathered for one special night to celebrate the work of Phoenix area nonprofits. Biz Bash is a concert event produced by CoBiz Financial, and has featured big-name acts such as Three Dog Night, Eddie Money, Starship and Aaron Neville. Proceeds generated by ticket and concession sales benefit two local nonprofits that have been selected for their exceptional contributions to the community.

This year, New Pathways for Youth is honored to have been selected alongside A New Leaf, which provides broad-based support to individuals and families in crisis. Last year, the event generated more than $140,000 and more than $1.4 million has been donated to Arizona charities during the event’s decade long run. Since the Biz Bash inception in Colorado in 2001, more than $5 million has been distributed to Arizona and Colorado nonprofits, affecting real change for the children and families served by the beneficiary partners

This year’s Biz Bash will take place at The Venue Scottsdale on October 5th, 2017. Apart from being a unique concertgoing opportunity, there will also be a high-end silent auction. The headlining entertainment will be announced in the coming months.

Events like Biz Bash are a great way for New Pathways to reach a new audience and connect our shared passions for music and the arts to our commitment to making our community a better place—where youth can reach their full potential. As many as 600,000 youth are believed to be “at-risk” for dropping out of the school system. Funds received from this year’s event will go toward expanding our Transformative Mentoring Program to reach 150 additional youth.
