Hon Kachina Awards
The Hon Kachina Volunteer Award is the highest distinction awarded to volunteers in Arizona and celebrates individuals doing outstanding work in improving the lives of others in our community.
Congratulations to our own Julie Frisoni Shumway who was honored for her dedication and commitment to New Pathways for Youth. Julie has been a mentor and supporter of New Pathways since our founding over 28 years ago!
This year New Pathways accomplished our goals with vigor and resilience.
- Our Neighborhood
New Pathways expanded a targeted approach in the Garfield community—the neighborhood we call home– through transformative and site based mentoring, age appropriate life skill development workshops, parenting workshops, and evidence based after school programs.
118 new youth were served in the Garfield community.
Our partners at BHHS Legacy Foundation and Opus Foundation matched funding to meet this expansion opportunity.
- Launch of Boys Council Curriculum
Boys Councils is a strengths-based group approach to promote boys’ and young men’s safe and healthy passage through pre-teen and adolescent years. In partnership with their mentor, boys address masculine definitions and behaviors and build their capacities to find their innate value and create their goals – individually and collectively. Our male youth and their mentors deepen their connection and reach even greater outcomes together!
- Competitive Job Market
Developed a workforce development with DPR Construction that is now ready to launch into other industries as a framework for building pipelines in high demand industries while ensuring our youth are ready to launch in the job market with more advantaged peers.
Grow With Us
New Pathways for Youth is looking forward and planning strategically for our future and the futures of our youth.
Hundreds of Youth and Mentors Served
New Pathways will enroll 150 new youth and mentors in 2017-18. This means hundreds of youth and mentors served through our transformative programming. Join us by becoming a mentor!
Geographically Targeted Mentoring Services
With our proof of concept for geographically targeted mentoring services implemented in the Garfield community, we are positioned to intentionally expand into other high need communities over the next two to three years. Contact our CEO, Christy McClendon, to learn more about how you can accelerate our demand for growth.
High Demand Fields
The needs of youth far exceed the need for traditional workforce job placement opportunities. Our youth need career and college tracks geared toward high demand industries. And our partners are the key to success. To learn more about our 9 week model for high demand fields, contact our program director, Richie Berg.
